Film #8: HOUSEBOUND
3 out of 5 stars
A young girl is sentenced by a judge to 8 months of “house arrest” for a botch ATM robbery. As a result, she is sent back to live with her parents in the home she grew up in. Bored and argumentative, she soon begins to get stir-crazy and starts snooping. Soon a mystery begins to unfold and we get an above average “stranger in the house” horror film with some comedic overtones. Performances are universally even (with the exceptions being the psychiatrist and the two cops) in a script that veers wildly in both pace and tone. Is it a haunted house story? Is it a murder mystery? Once the film reveals what it really has on its mind, the climactic moments of the films are paced well and things end fairly agreeably. All in all, a bit of a surprise as I expected this to be much worse than it wound up being.
