Film #25: AVENGERS - AGE OF ULTRON
Avengers: Age of Ultron
2 out of 5 stars
Overly long and unnecessarily over-complicated, AGE OF ULTRON is another serialized toy commercial masquerading as Cinema from Marvel Comics. At 2.5 hours, ULTRON is an unwieldy soap opera of a tale that stumbles and careens it way through its run-time. The acting seems more wooden than it is due to the fact that the actors have to say some of the dumbest dialog ever. The plot is overly hand-wringing and unsatisfying. The film feels like just some shit they had to get through to get to what they really want to do (CIVIL WAR). New characters are introduced and old ones seemingly leave, but the basic plot is one-dimensional and rickety. One particular error in judgement is the writing of Ultron’s lines (voiced by James Spader). Colloquialisms and slang always sits like dirt in the mouths of super computers and even Spader can’t breathe life into what he’s given. At this point, I’ll be honest… I don’t get it. These films aren’t satisfying and I’m starting to suspect they won’t be getting any better. See it… but only so you’ll know what people are talking about at work around the water cooler. If you want real Cinema, see ANYTHING else.
