Film #33: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Writer / Director Jonathan Liebesman (WRATH OF THE TITANS, BATTLE LOS ANGELES) reboots the successful TMNT franchise with this contrived and misguided script. The issue is that it is, for the most part, awkward, simplistic, and not exactly thought through. The characters are written in sketches and their motivations seem alternately cliché and without nuance. So, by the time Whoopi Goldberg shows up, you know you’re in for a shit-show of epic proportions. I will say that the “snow chase” was pretty cool. In the end, TMNT is a mess and not worth viewing. However… if I was an eight year old boy, I’d eat this up with a spoon. So, yeah… perfect for the kids, but adults will check out after the first act. Look for Johnny Knoxville as Leonardo and Tony Shalhoub as Splinter.
