Film #276 DREAD
3 out of 5 stars
We talked a bit about this on the last episode...
While it stumbles in places, this adaptation of the Clive Barker story from BOOKS OF BLOOD is a lot better than one would think it would be being that it’s part of the After Dark Horrorfest. The pace is deliberately slow, but methodical and the film is, in many ways, a thinking person's horror film. It's also noteworthy for what it DIDN'T do - it was a film about college-aged people and it never does the MTV dance party thing (ala SORORITY). Yes, there are moments that happen purely to drive the plot forward and come off kind of contrived, but overall... in a time when truly terrible horror films reign, this one rises to the top. For DiBlasi's first film, DREAD offers up hope for things to come.
