Film #303: REFLECTIONS IN BLACK aka IL VISIO HA LA CALZE aka VICE WEARS BLACK HOSE
Reflections in Black aka Il Visio Ha Le Calze aka Vice Wears Black Hose

Actor (most notably, he was in CINEMA PARADISO) turned director, Tano Cimarosa, directs his first of only three career films with this 1975 tale of lesbian and bisexual women who are being killed by an unseen killer and everything points to the woman with whom they were all having an affair. The film stars John Richardson (BLACK SUNDAY, ONE MILLION YEARS BC), Dagmar Lassander (HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY, HATCHET FOR THE HONEYMOON, FORBIDDEN PHOTOS OF A LADY UNDER SUSPICION), and Giacomo Rossi Stuart (Ben Cortman in LAST MAN ON EARTH and Mario Bava’s KIL BABY, KILL), and all do a competent job. The script makes for an overly-convoluted ninety minutes and whatever mystery there is developed keeps getting interrupted by random, yappy, softcore sex scenes. The plot is pure mid-70’s homophobia (everyone who is killed is a lesbian... so they deserve it) mixed with some rather uninteresting murders with a straight razor. The women are beautiful and the men lantern-jawed - and EVERYONE smokes - but the film moves along quickly even though, again, it doesn’t make much sense. Ok… but nothing special. Purely for giallo and Italo-mystery fans and for those who simply have to see EVERYTHING.
