Film #348: MR VAMPIRE 3 aka LING HUAN XIAN SHENG
Mr. Vampire 3 (aka Ling Huan Xian Sheng)
3 out of 5 stars
I’ll start by saying, “I love all of the MR VAMPIRE films.” They're silly, goofy, and yet somehow they retain their level of charm and yes, creepiness. Ching-Ying Lam (THE PRODIGAL SON, MAGIC COP) stars as always as The Master who, with his group of bumbling underlings, uses his vast knowledge of magic to thwart an evil witch and her devilish henchman. Most of the plot doesn’t really matter since the films run on such a palpable kinetic energy, it’s oftentimes hard to keep track of it all. Suffice it to say that the stunts are vintage Hong Kong action / chop-socky film and the abundance of endearing slapstick humor keep one’s eyes riveted to the screen. If you haven’t seen one of these – and luckily there’s no need to start at the beginning, you can pretty much jump in anywhere. Safe for the kids, the MR VAMPIRE series of films are just good, spooky fun! Highly recommended for one and all!
