Film #360: KISS OF THE TARANTULA
Kiss of the Tarantula
3 out of 5 stars
Barely 3 stars for this one, kids. Cut from the same mold as, say… WILLARD, only with tarantulas, this flick offers very few scares and absolutely no “death by spiders,” but it does put forth a nice little low budget nostalgic vibe (which is appreciated). For some reason, I guess in the '70s, no one knew that tarantulas can’t hurt you. Anyway, what makes this rise above the other films of its era - and makes it worth noticing at all - is a very skeevy ending that makes it all (sort of) worthwhile. Go into this one in the mind set of a “PG rated period piece” and know that there is absolutely no gore involved and you won’t be too disappointed. And man, that ending… maybe it’s because I worked in a funeral home, but… I liked the severity of it.
