Film #362: THE MAN AND THE MONSTER aka EL HOMBRE Y EL MONSTRUO
The Man and The Monster
3 out of 5 stars
Case Negra once again presents a beautiful print of a little known Mexican horror classic. This time the film is THE MAN AND THE MONSTER aka EL HOMBRE Y EL MONSTRUO starring the great Abel Salazar (THE VAMPIRE / THE VAMPIRE’S COFFIN & THE CURSE OF THE CRYING WOMAN) and directed by Rafael Baledón (THE CURSE OF THE CRYING WOMAN). The story is about a musician who sells his soul to the devil but at a great price (which, from the looks of things, is a bad, hairy rubber mask & false fangs). The sets look decidedly “Hammer-esque” and the acting is vintage Mexi-horror. The film is fairly clichéd but still is fun. It’s always nice to see the way other countries use the conventions of the genre and this movie is no exception. Again, not a GREAT film, but a fun one.
