Film #131: RED HILL
3 out of 5 stars
A sort of throwback to the 70s “lone cop” thrillers, but with less blood. A well-made flick with decent performances hiccups a little by having a story that has a lot of plot devices you’ll see coming a mile away (I mean, was there ever any doubt to the returning killer’s motivation?). Still, the story is told well, the landscape is WIDE open (it sort of reminded me of Robert Harmon / Eric Red’s THE HITCHER… only greener), and the acting handled well. That all said, I left the film wanting more… more visceral shoot-outs, more blood, more savagery. That’snot to say RED HILL isn’t worth the rental, it is… I just wanted something a little more gritty. Something more Peckinpah would've been nice.
