Film #180: THE HOUSE OF THE YELLOW CARPET aka LA CASA DEL TAPPETO GIALLO
The House of the Yellow Carpet (aka La Casa del Tappeto Giallo)
2 out of 5 stars
An utterly ridiculous latter day Giallo from 1985 directed by Carlo Lizzani and starring Ingmar Bergman cohort, Erland Josephson (FANNY & ALEXANDER, UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING). This is by no means a “black glove killer” flick, but rather an overly-elaborate tale of a husband who suspects his wife of infidelity. The entire setup turns out to be a ruse to “cure” the wife of her Elektra complex and the ending is both all too obvious and supremely contrived. While the film is completely dismissible, the one interesting factor in the production is the film score which was composed by Stelvio Cipriani (TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE, TENTACLE, PIRANHA II: THE SPAWNING). Other than that… HOUSE OF THE YELLOW CARPET is forgettable and barely serves as a footnote in the giallo genre.
