A relic. This was China’s first animated film and came out in 1941. It owes A LOT to the early animated films of Max Fleischer and it is based on the 16th-century tale Journey to the West. The story is faithful to the source material, but let’s be honest… the state of the art in animation has moved on and, other than as an historical document, this brings little to the table. Animation fans may want to rent this to see where Asian animation came from, but… other than that, this is an oddity at best.
