Film #225: GOTHIC PSYCHO LOLITA
Gothic Psycho Lolita

Riding the wave of recent – more extreme – Asian films (yes, I’m looking at you, Sushi Typhoon) comes Go (GEISHA VS. NINJAS) Ohara’s GOTHIC PSYCHOLOLITA (aka GOTHIC & LOLITA PSYCHO aka GOSURORI SHOKEININ), an odd, but sorta interesting, low budget, blood-drenched revenge story - think KILL BILL meets TOKYO GORE POLICE meets MIGHTY, MORPHIN’ POWER RANGERS. As a result, the script is all over the place. The acting is mostly proclamatory speeches and shouting (hey, the film’s Japanese). It’s all very silly and pretty juvenile except… there is an awful lot of blood & guts in this film. I mean fountains of the stuff. So, despite the film seeming to be geared for 8 year olds, you might want to wait on letting someone of that age see it. That all said, there are some pretty nifty martial arts sequences in this. While fantastic (and at time ridiculous), there is actual top drawer fight choreography in this flick. Sit down to the film knowing a) it’s silly, b) it’s “extreme,” c) there is a ton of blood and guts, and d) if you keep your eyes peeled, you just might see some cool looking martial arts. Recommended… but with some caveats.
