Film #251: HYPNOSIS
3 out of 5 stars
A stylishly shot, but meandering psychological thriller from Spain. Director David Carreras shows himself to be a competent filmmaker and there is no denying that there are some beautifully crafted set pieces here, but the film’s script proves itself to be too unwieldy and it continually gets in the way of what he wants to say visually. The story, well… I don’t want to give anything away, but… let’s just say that SOMEONE read SHUTTER ISLAND before making this. I give the film 2 stars for its story (we’ve seen this sort of thing more than a few times before) and an extra star just for its visual sense. Bottom line… HYPNOSIS is a terrific looking film with some really nice moments, but the director would probably have been better off with a story that was a little less convoluted and ambitious.
Sorry, kids... this one's sort of obscure and YouTube has no trailer for it.
