Film #69: HATCHET II
2 out of 5 stars
An utterly ridiculous “swamp killer” flick from horror fanboy Adam Green. This one picks up right where the last HATCHET film left off with Danielle Harris escaping and going to get help from Tony Todd’s Rev. Zombie character. Whatever… A group of characters right out of Cajun Central Casting gathers to go into the swamp to find and kill the killer. Again… whatever. Ridiculous plot contrivances and one-note characters are only there to setup the gore splatter show that is the real reason the viewer signed on. At least Danielle Harris tries… by adopting an accent and trying to adopt a credible back story. The rest of the film however doesn’t. It’s one ridiculously implausible set-piece after another and all to little effect. Frankly, this kind of swill is beneath most filmmakers but Green seems to like wallowing. One can only hope he closes this chapter in his career and moves on to something more substantial. Gore fans will lap this shit up. All others… stay out of this swamp!
