Film #114: PARASOMNIA
2 out of 5 stars
What a total disappointment. Shot on HDDV and sporting a cast of unknowns (save for some small parts by Sean Young, Timothy Bottoms, and Jeffrey Combs), the film is a mess of ridiculous plot shifts and medical babble. While it is evident that director, William Malone (CREATURE, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL remake) knows his way around a camera and editing suite, it is also apparent that his idea of a good script is one rife with clichés and contrivances. The acting by the two main actors is truly a painful thing to watch. The “leaning to eat ice cream” sequence will make you want to pluck your own eyes out. Also, the villain of the piece is completely dopey as well. And don’t get me started on the videogame worthy CG sequences. There are some moments to the film that save it from a 1 star review, but they are few and far between. Malone fans may like it as well as some fans of low budget DIY filmmaking, but… they will be in the distinct minority.
