Film #115: THE HAUNTING
3 out of 5 stars
Yet another of the Fangoria Frightfest films. Directed by Elio Quiroga, this SLOWLY paced ghost story takes forever - and I mean, FOREVER - to get going. So much so that it will have you checking your watch again and again. In the final reel however, as the various plot strings begin to tie themselves together, a decent little storyline is woven. Hopefully, the audience will not have grown bored or confused (by the incessant jumpin around which that narrative does) and will stick with it. By the end of the film, everything gets explained and normality is sort of returned to the main family’s life. While flawed, this is the second best of this series I’ve seen (second only to HUNGER). THE HAUNTING will not knock your socks off, but its mystery might hold your interest long enough to make it a worthwhile rental.
