Film #179: NIGHTMARES aka STAGE FRIGHT
Nightmares (aka Stage Fright)
1 out of 5 stars
NIGHTMARES is an utterly horrendous Ozploitation film from 1980 by the forgettable John D Lamond that fails on every conceivable level. The script is paper thin. The acting is as wooden as it comes. The gore… is just some fake blood splash around. It really is a mess. The plot has something to do with a theater production in which one of the cast (let’s be honest, there’s never a question as to who the killer is) begins killing people for some utterly ridiculous reason. NIGHTMARES starts slow and gets slower and more silly as it teeters toward its wholly predictable conclusion. In a word: crap! Avoid this one like the plague… or do yourself a favor and rent Michele Soavi’s FAR superior “killer in a theater flick, STAGEFRIGHT (aka STAGEFRIGHT: AQUARIUS aka DELIRIA aka BLOODY BIRD), from 1987. Soavi’s film is great. This one… is not.
