Film #211: KILL THEORY
2 out of 5 stars
Oi... Imagine tearing a few pages out of a handful of scripts. You grab the FRIDAY THE 13TH remake, a SAW film or two, a couple of ‘80s slasher films chosen at random, and maybe for some foreign flair, you grab BATTLE ROYALE. Then, you hand them to a wholly derivative screenwriter and a director with absolutely no imagination. Voila! You have KILL THEORY. This fiasco stars a group of interchangeable"twenty-somethings" (Ryanne Duzich from FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, Teddy Dunn from VERONICA MARS, Agnes Bruckner from VACANCY 2 & 24, and Patrick Flueger from THE 4400) who pretty much phone it in with a lot of "WHYYYYYY!!!s" & "WHO ARE YOUUUUUU?!?!?s" The killer is one of those omnipotent ones who plan for EVERYTHING and lay these giant bear traps on land the kids were *just* running over previously in the film. Ah, who cares...? KILL THEORY is yet another example of the anemic state of the horror film in which the genre's sensibilities are aimed straight at the heart of every 13 year old girl in America. Is it worth seeing? Sure... you've seen worse and there is one particular kill that is pretty fun. Just don't expect much of anything.
