Film #226: KILLSHOT
3 out of 5 stars
Director John Madden (MRS. BROWN, PROOF, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE) steps out of his wheelhouse with the adaptation of an Elmore Leonard novel. The film is packed with solid performances by Lane, Jane, Gordon-Levitt, & Rourke. The direction assured and engaging. There are some minor missteps though… Mickey Rourke takes a little getting used to as an American-Indian. I mean, some broken English and a long ponytail does not an Native make, but… you soon get used to it once the story’s setup is complete and we move on to the plot proper. But that is a small complaint in an otherwise solid film. Why it got so little attention by reviewers is beyond me.
