Film #239: WHATEVER WORKS
2 out of 5 stars
Woody Allen attempts to recapture his early comedy days with this tale of love and going with the flow. Larry David does his best to channel Allen by adopting many of his mannerisms and the cadence of his speech. The first half of the film is indeed pretty humorous with Allen’s writing almost leaping off the screen with its wit and wisdom. Then, for the second half… we get more “relationship” claptrap and the film stumbles along to its inevitable conclusion. Woody Allen fans may like this (and again… I did enjoy the first half), but others won’t see what the fuss is all about. Rentable for some of the dialog, but… just don’t expect much.
