Film #218: MY WIFE IS A GANGSTER
My Wife Is A Gangster
2 out of 5 stars
I’d heard a lot about this flick going in and sadly it didn’t live up to the hype. The story - an action/comedy - is clichéd and the action is pretty severely lacking. There are some nifty moments spread throughout it’s almost 2 hour runtime, but everything else is unoriginal and well, pretty boring. The most galling thing about MY WIFE IS A GANGSTER is how ineptly handled the action sequences are. LOTS of quick cutting and forced perspective give the illusion that something very cool is going down, but there’s not. What we get are subdued set pieces that look like out-takes from the CHARLIE’S ANGELS films. Further, so many plot lines get abandoned that I left the film just feeling frustrated. Korean action fans may dig this, but frankly, they’ve seen better. Anyone else may find it too slow and talky. Ok… not great.
