Episode 134: David Niall Wilson / On Writing

On this episode of The Bonus Material Podcast, Thom Carnell & Langley J West talk with David Niall Wilson. David is a writer who's been writing and publishing horror, dark fantasy, and science fiction since the mid-eighties.  Once President of the Horror Writer’s Association and multiple recipient of the Bram Stoker Award, his novels include Maelstrom, The Mote in Andrea’s Eye, Deep Blue, the Grails Covenant Trilogy, Star Trek Voyager: Chrysalis, Except You Go Through Shadow, This is My Blood, Ancient Eyes, On the Third Day, The Orffyreus Wheel, and Vintage Soul – Book One of the DeChance Chronicles. The Stargate Atlantis novel “Brimstone,” written with Patricia Lee Macomber is his most recent. He has over 150 short stories published in anthologies, magazines, and five collections, the most recent of which were “Defining Moments” published in 2007 by WFC Award winning Sarob Press, and the currently available “Ennui & Other States of Madness,” from Dark Regions Press.   His work has appeared in and is due out in various anthologies and magazines. She's also worked with The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Royal Danish Ballet, The New York City Ballet, The San Francisco Ballet, The Australian Ballet, and the soap opera, THE GUIDING LIGHT. Laura is the most knowledgeable person we know on this subject and it is an honor to have here on the show. John is best known for his roles in the George Romero films MARTIN, DAWN OF THE DEAD, KNIGHTRIDERS. DAY OF THE DEAD, and CREEPSHOW and is a terrific guy. Episode 129: Lorelei Shannon / The Southern Gothic

Wikipedia defines "Southern Gothic" as "a sub-genre of Gothic fiction / film that takes place in the American South. Common themes in Southern Gothic literature include deeply flawed, disturbing or eccentric characters who may or may not dabble in hoodoo, ambivalent gender roles, decayed or derelict settings, grotesque situations, and other sinister events relating to or stemming from poverty, alienation, crime, or violence."  We'll also talk a bit of News, review a few trailers, and make some recommendations. Other Broadway credits include Prosthetic Design for "The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein" (2007) and "The Toxic Avenger Musical" (2009). Dods professional breakthrough happened in 1983 when his mechanical monsters for the indie-feature The Deadly Spawn (1983) appeared on 6 magazine covers and acquired cult status on Internet websites.
