Hans Zimmer DARK PHOENIX
This score to the widely trounced finale to Fox’s X MEN franchise is a beautifully-rendered orchestral score chock full of GSM. The score is good, as scores go, it’s just sorta ‘by the numbers’ and uninspired; sorta boring and inconsequential.
Danny Elfman & Chris Bacon MIB INTERNATIONAL
Good, bouncy fun… it’s Danny Elfman! And boy, is this ever a Danny Elfman score: circusy, fun, and full of 2-3 minutes cues (which never leaves enough time to get into the songs) that are mostly GSM. Okay… for better or worse, it’s a Danny Elfman score (did I say that already?)
Tyler Bates HOBBS AND SHAW
Super high energy rock-based score – VERY modern rock. It all sounds like a video game score. LOTS of hard rock GSM, but it might be good for a workout, but… There are a few usable tracks that might be good to ‘drop into a mix,’ but, for the most part, this is pretty forgettable stuff.
Chrisopher Lennertz THE BOYS
Cool modern score… this is everything HOBBS & SHOW wasn’t. Some GSM, but LOTS of goodies as well. Made up of mostly 2-1 minute cues that range from punky hardcore to ‘music for when the fish swims by.” Reminded me a lot of a Daniel Pemberton score. EASILY the best of this bunch.
