Music: Eloy CODE NAME: WILD GEESE / Bill Bruford IF SUMMER HAD ITS GHOSTS
Eloy CODE NAME: WILD GEESE
Full disclosure: I am a BIG fan of the German band, Eloy, and feel that their discography is woefully underrated. Okay, that said… CODE NAME: WILD GEESE is a dated, but still a very cool film score. There is a bit of GSM, but the record is comparable to just about any of the Tangerine Dream scores and can serve as a standalone Prog record; comparison to Kraut Rock / Euro-Prog, and old school Western synthesists like Roedelius, Cluster, and even Vangelis are inevitable. Fun… even great in parts.
Bill Bruford IF SUMMER HAD ITS GHOSTS
A VERY cool modern jazz record by simply one of the best percussionists on the planet. Oddly, this record is very piano-centric, but there are a few tracks that feature some GREAT fretless bass work and, of course, a STELLAR drum solo. The music is challenging, but rewarding. I was surprised to see this record not on ECM. Again, challenging, but still nourishing.
